The importance of dental fillings cannot be overstated. Due to the effects of tooth decay caused by plaque, sooner or later, nearly everyone will have a cavity form in one or more teeth. If it is detected and treated early, this will leave the tooth strong and healthy, ready to continue serving you well for a long time. Our Philadelphia general dentist is pleased to offer materials that are tooth-colored, so that the fillings in your front teeth will blend in seamlessly with the natural look of your teeth. We at The Tabas Center for Advanced Dentistry, we are dedicated to your optimal oral well-being. Ceramic and composite (also called composite resins) are two materials that are flexible, durable, and that are good matches for the color of your teeth.

Even if you adhere to a strict regimen of brushing thoroughly after you eat, and flossing every day, there is no assurance that you will be able to eliminate all of the plaque that forms on and between your teeth. It’s a film-like substance that eats away at your tooth enamel, and that is what leads to cavities. When a cavity is ignored, it will only grow larger. And then it puts you at an increased risk for letting bacteria enter the tooth and cause an infection in the pulp of the tooth. This will usually mean root canal therapy and possibly the loss of a tooth. So it’s easy to see why dental fillings from our Philadelphia general dentist are so essential.

Composite is an excellent material for fillings. In addition to its cosmetic advantage, it bonds to your teeth very well, which means less drilling and more retention of your natural tooth material. Ceramic has the benefit of being resistant to stains. If you’re a regular user of tobacco or you like foods and drinks that include red wine, tea, coffee, berries, and curry, you will find ceramic retains its color far longer than other materials. do. For back teeth, however, amalgam (metal) fillings are often the better option, because they need to withstand the force that comes from chewing your food. Our Philadelphia general dentist will go over the pros and cons of the various materials so that you get the ideal filling for your situation.

Our cavity treatment in Philadelphia offers both traditional and newer filling options.

We offer traditional dental fillings, which include porcelain and composite fillings. Tooth-colored dental fillings are excellent for front teeth, and for areas that do not want their cosmetic appeal compromised by traditional amalgam fillings. Silver-colored amalgam fillings are still the best option when fillings are being made where extreme force will be applied, such as in the back molars. The newer fillings, which include ceramic and plastic compounds, copy the look of natural teeth, and are great when used in areas that do not need to withstand too much chewing pressure. These new fillings may also be used in back teeth, depending upon the location. Our dentist will be able to advise you as to the best course of action to follow in your particular situation. Insurance coverage may also play a role in your decision, so be sure to include this variable into your consideration. Our goal at The Tabas Center for Advanced Dentistry is to provide our patients with the greatest dental care so they the can preserve and maintain their beautiful smiles. We will always work with our patients, informing them of the options, so that they can be partners in determining the dental treatment. When you are in need of a Philadelphia general dentist, a great place to go to is The Tabas Center for Advanced Dentistry. Dr. Norman Tabas’s practice features Cosmetic and General Dentistry. Oftentimes people come to our practice when they are in need of dental fillings. Today, there are several different types of dental fillings available.

Your Philadelphia general dentist at Tabas Center for Advanced Dentistry offers several types of fillings. Traditional fillings are very durable and are useful when restored teeth  need to withstand strong forces from chewing. These traditional fillings are useful for teeth that are near the back of the mouth. However, there are also a new breed of ceramic and plastic compounds that are used for filling teeth; they copy the appearance of natural teeth and are often called composite resins. These fillings are most useful on teeth in the front of the mouth, when a natural, blended-in appearance is most important.  Composite resin fillings can also be used on back teeth depending on the extent of tooth decay. Tooth-colored fillings are a bit more involved to apply than the more traditional fillings. The tooth-colored filling is applied in layers. A special light is used to harden each layer, as it is applied. When the layering is completed, the dentist will shape the material, remove any excess, and then polish the resulting filling.

Perhaps you are one of the lucky few who has yet to need a dental filling! However, every one of us usually needs this dental service sooner or later. When you go to your Philadelphia general dentist for a tooth filling, at The Tabas Center for Advanced Dentistry, the dentist will first use a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth. The decayed portion of the tooth will then be removed using our state-of-the-art dental equipment. In order to be sure that the entire decayed area has been removed, the area will be probed with a dental instrument. Once all decay is removed, the space is cleared of any remaining bacteria and debris. If decay is close to the root, care will be taken to put in a special liner to protect the root. Then once the filling is completed, the dentist will make sure that the tooth with its new filling is comfortable for you to bite on. Once the filling process is completed, the filling will be polished. Now your tooth is ready to be chewed with, and any discomfort you were feeling before treatment, will be gone!
